Our Story

Rangers are Africa’s unsung heroes. They hold diverse roles as conservationists, teachers, community support workers, leaders and much more.

The Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organised by Tusk, is a celebration of solidarity, connection and camaraderie for the ranger profession. Culminating on 21st September 2024, the campaign raises vital funds for Africa's biodiversity guardians.

Game Rangers International - Greater Kafue Ecosystem & Rufunsa GMA's Resource Protection Programme empowers Rangers to conserve nature in some of the Game Management Areas adjacent to Kafue National Park, as well as a Protected Area to the east of Lower Zambezi National Park, in Zambia.

Although their core focus is enforcing the Wildlife Act, resulting in regular contact with armed poachers, these Rangers are also responsible for Human Wildlife Conflict mitigation - protecting the community and their livelihoods from elephants and predators, at the same time as protecting the wildlife from the communities. A highly complex role, the Rangers require empathy, courage, discipline, and resilience in the face of armed poachers, angry communities, and dangerous wildlife.

Dashing to Victory in the Time Trail Race

Congratulations to Team Musa for securing first place and becoming joint winners of the 2024 Wildlife Ranger Challenge Time Trial Race, organised by Tusk and the Game Rangers Association of Africa #ForWildlifeRanger. Our teams showed dedication, resilience, and exceptional skills by completing the 2.4km timed race in 00:08:01 sec competing with 57 ranger teams from across Africa. We would also like to express our gratitude to the Kafue Release Facility team and the Lusaka National Park for securing the 21st and 27th positions, respectively. Your hard work and commitment to conservation continue to inspire us all. TAKING ON THE BIG QUIZ

Last week, we joined rangers across Africa in participating in the first Wildlife Ranger Challenge Big Quiz as our rangers build their mental strength ahead of the major 21km race in September. Congratulations to Teams Lusaka National Park, Musa Camp, and The Kafue Release Facility for stepping up to compete with 60 ranger teams from across Africa. We are collaborating with Tusk, in association with the Game Rangers Association of Africa, to raise essential funds for Africa’s rangers who are increasingly stretched as they continue to protect wildlife, support communities, enhance critical research, and more.
